It’s National Vegetarian Week from 15th-21st May, so whether you’re a seasoned veggie, or just fancy a change, here are six of the best delicious and nutritious vegetarian cafés, restaurants and markets in Belgravia and Mayfair.
The MaE Deli
18-20 Weighhouse Street, Mayfair, W1K 5LU
Cosy plant-based eatery MaE is the brainchild of healthy food blogger, bestselling author and Instagram star Ella Mills – better known as Deliciously Ella – and her husband Matthew. Set up to provide delicious, natural meals, juices and snacks in a socially and environmentally responsible way, MaE is a haven for the health conscious – everything on the menu is naturally wheat, dairy and refined sugar free, with no additives, preservatives or stabilisers. If you’re feeling hungry, try out the MaE bowls, where punters can ‘create their own’ meal by mixing and matching four sumptuous savoury vegan dishes, or treat yourself to something sweet – the guilt-free peanut butter cookie and fudge brownie look particularly tempting! You can pop into the eatery from 7.30am – 9pm on weekdays and 9am – 9pm on weekends.
The Good Life Eatery
20 Motcomb Street, Belgravia, SW1X 8LB
Keep it simple, keep it clean and keep it fresh. This is the mantra of trendy Belgravia-based restaurant The Good Life Eatery, whose sustainably sourced products are made fresh every single day. Serving up delicious food morning, noon and night – with everything from açai bowls and chestnut and almond waffles at breakfast to superfood salads and warm quinoa and wild rice bowls (with extra veggie or meat protein options) throughout the day – you’ll be coming back time and time again. While food is integral to the Good Life’s offering, the eatery is renowned for its extensive range of cold pressed juices, power shots, raw cacao, matcha almond and cashew mylks, as well as scrumptious superfood smoothies. The Good Life is open from 8am – 8pm on weekdays, 9am – 7pm on Saturdays and 9am – 6pm on Sundays.
Daylesford Organic Café
44B Pimlico Road, Belgravia, SW1W 8LP
Daylesford is one of the most sustainable organic farms in the UK, grown over 35 years from a family’s passion for real food. Its people are dedicated to growing, producing and cooking seasonal, organic food that is packed with flavour, vitamins and minerals. Daylesford’s Pimlico Organic Café offers a friendly, sociable place to eat, drink and relax with friends and family – and a menu bursting with tempting breakfast, brunch and lunch options. But if you’re in the mood for afternoon tea, this is the place to be. The café serves up freshly baked scones, cakes and tarts on a daily basis, or – for the more virtuous – the light plates menu, carefully crafted by the Daylesford nutritionist, offers a host of vegetarian delights (try the spring broccoli salad or toasted grain tabbouleh). Visit the café from 8am – 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 3pm on Sundays.
32 Dover St, Mayfair, W1S 4NE
Health and wellbeing brand Raw Press wants to spread the wellness message, reminding punters that being healthy doesn’t have to be hard through its extensive offering of nourishing food and juices. The café boasts a constantly revolving menu of nutritious eats, including plant-based and gluten-free salads, a daily soup, as well as hot options such as the scrumptious miso aubergine or baked sweet potatoes with herb oil and coconut yoghurt. The choice is just as hard at breakfast – while the superfood breakfast buffet is enough to tempt the masses, açai bowls, avocado on toast and vegan buckwheat waffles are among the other items on offer. But whatever time of day you visit (open 8am – 6pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am – 5pm on Fridays), be sure to pick up an organic, cold pressed juice, made daily in Raw Press’ London juicing kitchen.
Fernandez & Wells
55 Duke St, Mayfair, W1K 5NR
In search of a sanctuary after a long day of shopping? Drop by Fernandez & Wells, nestled just yards from Oxford Street in the heart of Mayfair, for fabulous coffee, cake, soup and sandwiches, as well as delectable wines and tapas, amongst an eclectic mix of high end fashion, books, magazines and art installations. While the spot is well known for its cured meats and cheeses, the small plates offer an indulgent variety of vegetarian tapas – from rich patatas bravas to zingy Greek salad and Roman-style grilled artichokes. Pop in from 7.30am for breakfast and take away, or pull up a seat in the outdoor seating area.
Brown Hart Gardens Market
Duke Street, Mayfair, W1K 6JQ
Perched above the old Duke Street electricity substations in Mayfair, the beautifully terraced Brown Hart Gardens provides a tranquil oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city. While the gardens offer a year-round space for the public to relax in and enjoy, once a week they are transformed into The Mayfair Market, hosting an array of stalls, businesses and entrepreneurs showcasing their tempting produce, authentic dishes, and mouth-watering treats. While the market offers something for everyone, the garden-fresh fruit and vegetables are a veggie’s dream! You can drop by the gardens every Wednesday, where the market is open from 11am to 3pm.
